CARING FOR YOUR PIANO

The following recommendations are based on the Piano Technicians Guild website. You can find more information on their Piano Care webpage.

Basic Care

  • Your piano is an instrument, not a piece of furniture. Avoid placing food, liquids, or plants on it.
  • Keep the keyboard cover closed when not in use to prevent dust on the keys.
  • Occasionally wiping your piano gently with a dry or damp cotton cloth is recommended. Afterwards, be sure to dry it.
  • Avoid polishing unless you are recommended to do so by a certified technician.

Tuning and Servicing

  • It is recommended that a piano be serviced at least twice a year by a qualified piano technician.
  • If the piano is not regularly serviced, it could later result in great and costly damage to tuning pins, strings, hammers, and wood inside the piano. Do NOT attempt to adjust, fix, or otherwise tamper with the inner workings of the piano! If you suspect an issue with the internal parts of the piano, call your technician.
  • When your piano is placed by Mundi Project, the first tuning is on us! We will make arrangements with a qualified technician who will service your instrument.

Placement In Your Home

  • Find a spot in your home to place the piano that avoids direct sunlight. The ultraviolet light and heat can damage the piano’s cabinetry, keyboard, and inner workings.
  • Find a spot that avoids heating and air conditioning vents, fireplaces, and windows that are often opened. Large temperature changes can affect the inner workings of the piano. If possible, place the piano on an inside wall of your home.
  • Try to maintain a constant relative humidity (around 42% relative humidity is recommended). Extreme changes in humidity affect the piano.
