"Harmonizing the Community Through Piano Performance"

Harmonices Mundi Finger Puppets Unity Center

The Mundi Project Piano Ambassador Program is committed to creating innovative piano performance and educational opportunities by creating friendships throughout the Wasatch Front community through the love of piano. Mundi Project mulit-disciplinary piano concerts merge piano performance with visual art, poetry, modern dance, PowerPoint, and lighting displays.

Public Speaks Out:

" I recently read about the Mundi Project in the Salt Lake Tribune. My son and I attended your concert at the SLC Library, and just wanted to thank you for such a beautiful concert. We loved the theme, slides, poetry and of course the wonderful music by such talented pianists. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon activity. "

Slideshow

Imagine one, two, three, four... pianos on one stage. This concert was a wonderful chance for private students andgroup piano students from around the valley to play together in harmony. The Mundi Project commissioned an original composition "Triangles" for 10 pianos that was premiered at this concert. Piano performances were enhanced by a PowerPoint backdrop included visual art produced by YouthCity Artways students.

Two performances were held for school children during the day at Glendale Middle School. The evening performance open to the general public featured special guest Jon Schmidt.

History

In our 2007- 2008 season, the Mundi Project produced two concerts based on Harmonices Mundi, the harmony of the spheres. Private piano students auditioned to perform at the Salt Lake Main Library and the Grand Opening of the Sorenson Unity Center Black Box Theater. The Salt Lake Library performance focused on the Music in the 'Universal' sphere. Music, poetry, visual art, and dance was inspired by the planetary objects in our solar system and universe, as well as gave insight into the works of astronomer, Johann Keppler. The Unity Center performance was based more on the 'harmony' in our world. A visually powerful PowerPoint display focused on the chaotic and harmonious elements seen in people and in nature.

Harmonice Mundi Mundi Poetry Mundi

In the summer of 2008, The Mundi Project partnered with the Salt Lake Arts Academy in providing a three-week intensive workshop based on Don Miguel Ruiz "The Four Agreements." Students created poetry, visual art (murals, masks, pottery, word art, and bookmaking), composed original music, and choreographed works based on the four principles: Be Impeccable with Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions, and Always Do Your Best. Workshop participants had the opportunity to showcase their creations in a performance held at the Rose Wagner Black Box Theater.
