Spencer Hopson, age 17, is a junior at East High School, and truly loves being a Mundi ambassador. His musical studies began at age 4, and he is currently a student of Dr. Susan Duehlmeier.
He has earned “Superior” ratings for thirteen years, participating in the Utah Federation of Music Festival in both solo and concerto divisions, and has been privileged to perform three times on Temple Square at the annual Utah Federation of Music Honors Recital. Spencer has competed and participated in many competitions and has earned top placements in the Summer Arts Music competition in both 2015, 2016, and 2017 in both solo and concerto divisions. He was pleased to be selected to participate in the Utah Music Teachers Association Honors Recital in 2015 and in January of 2016 performed the 3rd mvt of Gershwin’s piano Concerto in F with the Salt Lake Symphony. Under the direction of Jack Ashton, Spencer has joined the YACP orchestra on two European tours as the accompanist in 2014 and 2016 and is currently the piano/organ accompanist for this talented group of youth. In addition to his study of piano, Spencer enjoys the challenges associated with playing the organ.
Even with hours of musical pursuits, Spencer maintains excellent grades while taking on a heavy load of 4 AP classes. In his spare time, Spencer takes to the slopes to ski, plays lacrosse, and enjoys fishing and hunting with his Dad. Spencer is also proud to be an Eagle Scout.
